「日本で受験をする」「日本語を自由に話せるようになる」など、ニューヨークで日本語での学習をする子どもたちには、様々な目的があります。様々なニーズに応えるために、私たちは自由進度と個別学習を提案します。
自由進度とは、自分の理解度に合わせてペースを設定することです。苦手な分野は時間をかけて習得することができ、得意な教科は、どんどん実力を伸ばすことができます。例えば、小学5年生の分数の計算が苦手なことがわかったら、小学3年生まで戻って分数の基本から学び直すことが可能です。また、小学4年生の配当漢字を全てマスターしたら、5年生、6年生…と先に進めることも可能です。
分からないことがあるときは、気軽に先生に質問できることが個別学習の良いところです。時には友達と協力して教え合い、対話から理解を深めることができます。一斉授業とは違った、新たな学びが生まれます。
Children studying in New York in Japanese have a variety of goals, such as "to take an entrance exam in Japan" or "to be able to speak Japanese freely. In order to meet their various needs, we offer free progression and individual learning.
Free progress means that you can set the pace according to your level of understanding. You can take your time to master areas you are weak in, while subjects you are strong in can be developed as you go along. For example, if you find that you are not good at calculating fractions in the 5th grade, you can go back to the 3rd grade and relearn the basics of fractions. Also, once you have mastered all the Kanji characters in 4th grade, you can move on to 5th grade, 6th grade, and so on.
One of the advantages of individual learning is that you can easily ask questions to the teachers whenever you have a problem. Sometimes you can cooperate with your friends to teach each other and deepen your understanding through dialogue. This is a new kind of learning that differs from simultaneous classes.

2. 異学年混合クラス

Altoでは、異年齢の子どもたちが同じクラスで学びます。年齢を越えたコミュニケーションは、多様性のある社会で生きるための土台となります。年上か年下かは相手の一つの面にすぎないことを前提とし、相手を理解して関係を築く大切さを学びます。
At Alto, children of different ages learn in the same class. Communication across age groups is the foundation for living in a diverse society. Students learn the importance of understanding others and building relationships with them, assuming that being older or younger is just one aspect of the other person.

3. プロジェクト／Project
インプットだけではなく、アウトプットすることも学習において非常に重要な要素です。そのアウトプットの機会としてプロジェクトがあります。プロジェクトでは、やりたいことを決め、詳細を決める会議を重ね、準備をし、実行するということを子どもたちが主体的に行います。聞く、話すのコミュニケーションはもちろん、質問する、共感する、異論を唱えるなどプロジェクトを成功させるために、子どもたちは多くのことを学ぶことができます。
また、Altoでは自分が学んだことを誰かのために役立て、環境や社会に貢献することを大事にします。プロジェクトを通して、そういった学習の姿勢も養うことができます。新入生を迎える入学式の運営や、地球規模のSDGsに関わる活動など、さまざまなことに挑戦していきます。
In addition to input, output is a very important part of learning. Projects are an opportunity for this output. In a project, children take the initiative in deciding what they want to do, holding a series of meetings to decide the details, making preparations, and executing the project. Children learn not only communication skills such as listening and speaking, but also how to ask questions, empathize, and raise objections in order to make the project a success.
At Alto, we also value the importance of contributing to the environment and society by using what they have learned to help others. Through the projects, they can also develop such an attitude toward learning. They will take on a variety of challenges, such as organizing the entrance ceremony to welcome new students and activities related to the global SDGs.
